When Is Halloween?
Next Halloween (2026)
Saturday, October 31, 2026
Halloween falls on October 31 every year. It is an observance, not a federal holiday.
About Halloween
Halloween on October 31 grew out of the Celtic festival of Samhain and the evening before All Saints' Day. Today it is known for costumes, pumpkin carving, haunted houses and trick or treating.
It is not a public holiday, so school and work carry on as usual, although many towns post official trick or treat hours for the evening. Costume parties often happen on the closest weekend, which makes a printable October calendar useful for planning.
How the Date Is Set
Halloween is held on October 31 every year. The date stays the same every year, while the weekday moves forward by one day, or by two after a leap day.
